The Rock had a brief testicular cancer scare earlier this year, and he had to get through a full Jumanji press event while wondering if something was seriously wrong.
While speaking to Esquire, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed that he found a painful lump on one of his testicles while showering. He said he didn’t tell his wife, Lauren, at first because he didn’t want to worry her before knowing what was going on: “I didn’t even tell Lauren. I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.”
Johnson said he eventually called his doctor, who examined the lump and told him it was likely epididymitis, which is inflammation of a tube behind the testicle, but testicular cancer also had to be ruled out: “By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful.”
The timing made the situation even tougher. The next day, Johnson had to appear with Kevin Hart and Jack Black for an all-day Jumanji press event, even though he was still waiting to get an ultrasound and didn’t know whether he was dealing with epididymitis or testicular cancer.
“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches.”
Thankfully, The Rock is fine now, but the situation clearly gave him a scary 24 hours. Even one of the biggest stars in the world had to put on a smile, promote a movie, and act like everything was normal while privately waiting to find out if he was dealing with testicular cancer.
