There’s so much media flying around these days, it’s impossible to keep up. Most DH teams produce video content from each race weekend, pre-season, post-season, and off-season. Many riders do the same. Then there are the brands. So, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and give up on seeing it all – or any of it. (If you find yourself in that camp, do yourself a favour and sign up for new video notifications from Sleeper Collective. They produce a highlight video from each World Cup weekend, and they’re not to be missed.)
Since the beginning of Netflix’s Formula 1 smash hit, Drive to Survive has been one of the best-regarded titles in sports doc circles. And while it doesn’t have the same budget or scope, The Search for Milliseconds does, in part, answer the question I’ve heard asked several times in recent years: “What would a World Cup Downhill-themed version of Drive to Survive look like?”
This was a big effort, spanning multiple race weekends and expertly lacing together interviews, race action, looks behind the scenes, reaction footage, and expert narrative and pacing.
Set a half hour aside, and consider watching this on the best screen you have, with the sound turned up. It’s that good. We can only hope there’s more on the way for this season.
