SHIMANO expands its flat pedal lineup with the launch of the new SAINT PD-G8040 and DEORE XT PD-
M8240 flats. Designed to meet the demands of trail riders, both models deliver confident grip, excellent
stability, and long-lasting durability, bringing SHIMANO’s legendary pedal engineering to riders who
prefer flats.
For more than three decades, SHIMANO SPD mountain bike pedals have set the standard for
performance and reliability. The new SAINT and DEORE XT flat pedals carry that same proven approach
into a new generation of wide-platform flat pedals built for modern mountain biking, from laps in the
bike park to all-day backcountry adventures.
SAINT PD-G8040 Flat Pedals
The PD-G8040 flat pedals sit at the top of SHIMANO’s flat pedal lineup and draw on SAINT’s gravity-
focused heritage. They include an extra-wide, dual-concave platform that allows the rider’s shoe to
settle naturally, providing a planted, controlled feel on steep, technical terrain. Additionally, the pedal
body features a resin construction, allowing the pedals to skid off rocks, roots, and other obstacles
instead of getting hung up.
SHIMANO’s flat platform design maximizes usable contact area, while a thin pedal profile improves
ground clearance. Built with a reinforced alloy pedal body, composite skid plate, impact-resistant pins,
and robust axle and bushing construction, the PD-G8040 is engineered to withstand repeated impacts
and hard riding, season after season. Of course, wear and tear will happen, that’s why SHIMANO
designed the pedals to be completely rebuildable, with replacement axles, resin skid plates, pins, and
more.

DEORE XT PD-M8240
The DEORE XT PD-M8240 flat pedals deliver the same performance-driven DNA at a lower-cost. Like
SAINT, these pedals feature an extra-wide, dual-concave platform for planted control as well as a thin
pedal body with no protrusion from the axle to maximize contact area while maintaining a stable,
consistent feel underfoot.
While the DEORE XT pedals do not feature a resin skid plate outer construction like SAINT, they are built
with a reinforced pedal body, impact-resistant pins, and robust axle and bushings for dependable
performance and long-term reliability.
