Back in April it was revealed when the 2026/27 Premier League fixtures will be announced.
We are now almost at that point.
The release of the 2026/27 Premier League fixtures will take place at 10am tomorrow (Friday 19 June 2026).
The 2026/27 Premier League season will start on the weekend of Saturday 22 August 2026.
So nine weeks to wait after the fixtures reveal.
The April 2026 official announcement from the Premier League also gave other info (see below).
At 10am on Friday though, what do you want to see?
What will you be especially looking for when the 2026/27 Premier League fixtures are revealed?
This is what I am hoping for…
What I want to see is an opening set of fixtures that give Newcastle United the best possible chance of starting the season in a positive way.
In recent years this hasn’t been the case.
The opening half dozen 2025/26 Premier League fixtures for United were:
Aston Villa away
Liverpool home
Leeds away
Wolves home
Bournemouth away
Arsenal home
That looked a really tough set of opening fixtures and so it proved, only one win from six and six points from a possible 18.
The opening half dozen games last season saw Newcastle United facing the previous season’s champions (Liverpool) and the eventual 2025/26 champions (Arsenal) both at home. Indeed, Eddie Howe and his players faced four teams that would end up finishing top six last season. Playing a freshly promoted team away from home (Leeds) so early isn’t ideal either. When those fixtures were released, I think the only match of the opening six that Newcastle United fans were really confident it would end up NUFC getting a win was Wolves at home, so it proved.
No doubt plenty of you will be saying you have to play all of the 19 teams twice, so why should the order matter?
I think history shows that if you can get off to a good start early in the season, then it gives you a far better chance of success overall. Get a poor start and you are instantly under pressure.
I’m not going to name my ideal teams club by club BUT what I do want to see is avoiding the teams competing in the Champions League, wait until they are playing twice a week before facing them. If we are to face any promoted teams early on, I would rather they were at St James’ Park. Give Newcastle United some generally winnable looking matches in the first half dozen and especially, make the very first game a home one and the best possible chance of kicking off the season with a victory.
Some details from the official Premier League announcement back in April 2026:
The 38th and final match round will be played on Sunday 30 May 2027, when all 20 teams will kick off at the same time as usual.
The official Premier League announcement claiming: ‘The Premier League will start one week later next season than in 2025/26. This is because, with an increasingly congested global football calendar, player welfare remains a priority for the Premier League. Starting on 22 August will allow for 89 clear days from the end of the current season and 33 days from the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.’
Yes, player welfare a top priority of course, the same as concern for the fans…
The official release going on to state: ‘The final day of the season will be a week before the UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday 5 June 2027. The 2026/27 season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek match rounds. The Premier League schedule will be designed to avoid domestic competition clashes with UEFA club competition dates, wherever possible.’
Also, the Premier League detailing that: ‘Over the Christmas and New Year period, no two match rounds will take place within 60 hours. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule within the expanded international calendar.’
