Ronda Rousey’s surprise AEW Revolution appearance may not have been part of some major long-term wrestling plan, but Tony Khan is clearly leaving the door wide open for her to come back anytime she wants.
While speaking during the AEW Double or Nothing media call, Khan addressed Rousey’s status after her AEW Revolution appearance. Khan said Rousey is always welcome in AEW and made it clear he would be happy to have her compete whenever she is available.
The AEW President also acknowledged that the Baddest Woman on the Planet is focused on her family right now, but said the door remains open if she ever wants to step back into AEW.
Rousey previously explained on her vlog that her AEW Revolution appearance came together because she wanted to support Marina Shafir during Shafir’s first pay-per-view match and tie it into her own upcoming fight.
“Marina had her first pay-per-view match, I believe. I asked her, ‘Hey, are you going to be doing these shows while I’m on the way to my fight so I can do a run-in and help you out and put over the fight?’ And she was like, ‘Actually, I’m gonna be at Staples Center doing my first-ever pay-per-view match.’”
Rousey also revealed that AEW kept her appearance tightly under wraps, describing how she was secretly brought into the arena.
“I was brought into the arena like — I thought it was going to be a chill, whatever kind of day. But they were acting like it was the Royal Rumble, super secret. They had me jump into a wheelchair, threw a tarp over me, and wheeled me in there. I had to wear a tarp.”
She also admitted the appearance had a rebellious edge to it, especially because she knew it could raise questions involving TKO Group.
“It’s kind of a cool little bit of a f** you to the TKO Group, which is kind of funny because WWE is on Netflix. But I kind of figured it’d be easier to ask for forgiveness instead of permission on this one. Like, I’m promoting your show. It’s fine. We didn’t advertise it. It’s not like we boosted the ratings, so it should be fine.”*
Rousey’s own comments made it clear the Revolution appearance was not treated as the start of a full-time AEW run. Still, Khan’s latest remarks show AEW would gladly bring her back if the timing ever works out.
