These Indian batsmen have been on top of their game in the one-day format and have scored an unbelievable number of runs during particular years

1. Sachin Tendulkar, 1998 – 1894 runs

The Master Blaster was at his absolute best in ODIs during 1998. He smashed 9 centuries in the format that year, a record which still stands today. Tendulkar also holds the record for most runs scored in a calendar year by a batsman. There is a high possibility that both these records may never be topped.

2. Sourav Ganguly, 1999 – 1767 runs

The Prince of Kolkata was on fire in ODIs during the whole of 1999, scoring 4 centuries and 10 half-centuries. This includes the memorable 183-run knock against Sri Lanka in the 1999 ODI World Cup. In the same match he had an outstanding 318-run partnership with Rahul Dravid.

3. Rahul Dravid, 1999 – 1761 runs

Dravid showed his class in ODIs during the year 1999 by scoring 6 centuries and 8 half-centuries. The knock of 153 runs against New Zealand at Kanpur was his most memorable knock from that year. Not to forget his 331-run stand with Tendulkar in the same match which became the biggest partnership in one-day cricket at that time.

4. Sachin Tendulkar, 1996 – 1611 runs

Tendulkar’s rise continued in the year 1996 with 6 centuries and 9 half-centuries. He was the highest run-scorer of the 1996 ODI World Cup, scoring 523 runs which included 2 centuries. His most memorable knock of the year came against Sri Lanka in the World Cup where he scored 137 runs to carry India to a great total of 271/3 in 50 overs.

5. Shubman Gill, 2023 – 1584 runs

Gill had an outstanding 2023 as he rose to stardom thanks to his incredible 5 centuries and 9 half-centuries in the ODI format. His most memorable knock of the year was undoubtedly the 208-run innings against New Zealand in Hyderabad. Gill became only the fifth Indian player to hit a double-century in one-day cricket.
