Torrie Wilson did not exactly walk into her first meeting with her future husband expecting romance.
The WWE Hall of Famer revealed on the Duke Loves Rasslin podcast that when she first met her husband, Justin, for tea, she believed the entire meeting was about business. It took her about an hour to realize she was actually on a date.
Wilson said the introduction came through mutual friend Don Saladino while she was living in Los Angeles. At the time, she was not exactly looking to let another man into her life.
“Oh my gosh, my central nervous system is finally at peace. I I met Justin when I was living in LA and we have a mutual friend. Um Don Saladino, he’s up in New York, told us we should meet.”
Wilson admitted that her mindset around dating was not in a great place before meeting Justin.
“Honestly, I was in such a weird headsp space. I kind of hated men at the time. I was just over it.”
That may be why she did not immediately recognize what was happening when the two sat down together.
“And I met my husband for tea and about maybe about an hour in I realized this was actually a date. I thought our friend was like setting me up with Justin to talk business.”
Despite the unexpected setup, Wilson said Justin quickly made her feel comfortable because he was respectful and did not come across as someone trying too hard to impress her.
“My guards were down and he just he is such a respectful person born in the south Carolina. Uh, I immediately I just felt like he was safe and someone I wanted to be around and I someone I knew would kind of protect me from the world that felt so scary and something that I couldn’t trust.”
When host Duke joked about Justin turning an accidental date into a lasting relationship, Wilson made it clear that his low-key approach was exactly what won her over.
“He wasn’t trying to be Rico Suave. That’s what worked.”
Wilson also discussed how meeting Justin eventually opened the door for the next major chapter of her life. After meeting him later in life, the couple welcomed a daughter through surrogacy, with Wilson becoming a mother at 50.
The former WWE star has shared plenty of career memories through the years, but this story gives fans a look at the personal relationship that changed everything for her. What began as a tea meeting she thought was about business ended with Wilson finding the person she says finally made her feel safe and at peace.
