Tottenham and Chelsea Lock Horns Over Porto’s Rising Star Samu Aghehowa – FootballAction.CO.UK

Two London giants are set for a transfer tussle as both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea intensify their pursuit of FC Porto sensation Samu Aghehowa.

Spurs’ Striker Conundrum Deepens

Tottenham’s season under Thomas Frank has been nothing short of Jekyll and Hyde. While Spurs boast the Premier League’s finest away record with 13 points from five matches, their home form tells a worrying tale—just four points from the same number of fixtures.

The cracks are beginning to show. After last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea, Frank’s authority was publicly questioned when Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven snubbed their manager’s attempted handshake, marching straight down the tunnel instead. It’s hardly the unity you’d expect from a top-four contender.

With Champions League duties against FC Copenhagen midweek and a crunch clash with Manchester United looming, Spurs are already eyeing January reinforcements. Enter Samu Aghehowa.

Why Aghehowa Makes Sense

Since Harry Kane’s departure, Tottenham’s striker situation has been chaotic. Dominic Solanke arrived with promise but has been sidelined by injury since the season’s opening weeks. Richarlison continues to flatter to deceive, Mathys Tel remains too raw for consistent Premier League football, and Randal Kolo Muani’s loan deal means he’ll likely return to PSG next summer.

Aghehowa represents a genuine solution. The Spaniard has been sensational this season, banging in nine goals and providing one assist in just 10 domestic appearances for Porto.

Chelsea Ready to Rekindle Interest

The Blues aren’t backing down without a fight. After a failed approach last year, Chelsea are preparing to reignite their pursuit. Despite recruiting João Pedro and Liam Delap last summer, neither has solved their striker crisis—Pedro prefers operating deeper, while Delap has battled fitness issues and disciplinary concerns.

Porto have slapped a hefty £87 million release clause on their prized asset, though reports suggest they’d accept around £70 million. With four years remaining on his contract, whoever secures Aghehowa’s signature will be landing one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
