Troy Williamson-Callum Simpson rematch lands on Aug 8 on DAZN

Ben Shalom’s BOXXER will begin a new partnership on DAZN with the rematch between Troy Williamson and Callum Simpson.

Simpson will look for revenge against Williamson on August 8 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

Williamson dropped the Barnsley man four times on route to a 10th round stoppage win in December to capture the British, Commonwealth and European super middleweight titles.

Neither man has fought since and the ‘Trojan’ insists his rival has made an error by taking an immediate rematch.

“It’s about time they got themselves ready,” the 34-year-old said.

“And, believe me, they have made a big mistake by activating this rematch.

“This fight cannot come soon enough.

“Callum Simpson: I’ve beaten you once, and on August 8, I will beat you again.”

Simpson suffered the first defeat of his professional career, but has vowed to avenge the loss.

“I can’t wait for August 8,” the 29-year-old said.

“Leeds is going to be bouncing.

“Troy had his night, but I’m coming to take back what’s mine.

“I’m fitter, sharper and more determined than ever.

“He’s done a lot of talking since the first fight, but now he’s got to back it up.

“I’m ready to settle the score and remind people who Callum Simpson is.”

BOXXER had been aligned exclusively with the BBC after the conclusion of their Sky Sports deal.

Adam Azim’s victory over Steve Claggett last month was their most recent show on the BBC and according to BOXXER, their deal with the BBC is not affected by this partnership with DAZN, which will air the Williamson-Simpson bout exclusively.

BOXXER announced a multi-fight deal with the streaming platform which also has contracts with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

DAZN did not reply to messages from proboxing-fans.com when asked to clarify the length of the deal.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with DAZN, the global home of boxing, to showcase this event to a worldwide audience,” BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom said.

“Leeds will provide an incredible atmosphere on August 8, and we’re excited to build on this momentum with more major events on DAZN, including a huge BOXXER Pay-Per-View event later this year.

“Troy Williamson vs Callum Simpson II is one of British boxing’s most eagerly anticipated rematches.

“Williamson tore up the script and sent shockwaves through the super-middleweight division when he knocked out Simpson in front of his home fans in December.

“Now, Simpson is out for revenge and has the opportunity to put things right and prove he belongs at world level.”
