UFC Fight Night: Sterling vs. Zalal – Key Details and How to Watch This Weekend

The UFC returns to its home base this weekend with a five-round featherweight main event matchup between former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and the surging Youssef Zalal. This bout carries significant implications for the 145-pound title picture, with the action unfolding at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 25.

This event was originally slated to feature a welterweight bout between Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley, but those plans were shifted to a different card. Instead, the promotion has pieced together a Fight Night headlined by a classic clash of veteran championship pedigree versus a contender riding the hottest streak of his career.

Sterling vs. Zalal

Aljamain Sterling enters the cage with a 2-1 record since vacating the bantamweight throne and moving up to featherweight, most recently taking a decision win over divisional veteran Brian Ortega in August 2025.

Sterling’s game is built on a high-volume, long-range kicking attack designed to push opponents toward the fence, where he chains takedowns with trips and utilizes his signature body triangle from the back position.

While he has elite five-round experience, his reliance on winning minutes rather than seeking finishes has occasionally left the door open for split scorecards in close rounds.

Youssef Zalal, on the other hand, has been on a tear since rejoining the UFC roster, rattling off five consecutive victories, four by way of submission.

His performances include a submission finish of Josh Emmett in October 2025:

Unlike Sterling’s methodical pressure, Zalal is a more reactive athlete who thrives on lateral movement and opportunistic counters with his slick striking. On the ground, he is a constant submission threat in transitions, capable of snatching a neck or attacking a limb the moment an opponent overextends or fails to clear a scramble cleanly.

Fight Dynamics and Odds

The main question is whether Sterling can implement his signature cage-cutting pressure against a fighter in Zalal who moves exceptionally well in open space. Sterling will likely need to level-change early to disrupt Zalal’s timing and force grappling exchanges against the cage, where Zalal’s fluid scrambles can be mostly neutralized.

According to BETOnline, Zalal is currently a slight favorite at -120, reflecting the oddsmaker’s belief in his finishing upside and momentum. However, Sterling’s ability to force a grinding pace in the championship rounds could tilt the scorecards in his favor if Zalal’s output dips under the pressure of extended grappling control.

Expect a tense, high-IQ affair where the smallest positional error could flip the outcome instantly.
