Victor Wembanyama did everything he could to grab a Game 2 win for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. However, it wasn’t enough as the New York Knicks managed to escape the Frost Bank Center with a win by just one point. While most players played a key role in the victory, much of the credit belongs to Karl-Anthony Towns.
The Spurs fell short against the Knicks, 105-104. Wembanyama and his team now head to New York hoping to steal a game. They could have been on the winning side if it weren’t for KAT. During the final seconds of the game, Wembanyama drove toward the rim and attempted to win the game for the Spurs.
However, standing opposite the Spurs star was Towns, who used his size, strength, and positioning to force the miss that sealed the Knicks’ 2-0 lead in the series. Following the game, Wembanyama acknowledged his opponent while also addressing how his team needs to improve. “It’s very different from previous series,” the Spurs star said during the post-game press conference.

“It’s bringing us into difficult areas because they’re good players, he’s a good player.” Wemby further added how San Antonio needs to improve after taking a look at the scoresheet. He said, “We need to figure it out. We need to keep working on it… We can do a little bit better.”
While Wembanyama holds a four-inch height advantage over the 7-foot Towns, the Knicks star has proven to be one of the few players capable of making life difficult for the Spurs’ centerpiece. In Game 2, Towns recorded a team-high 21 points and added 13 rebounds, impacting both ends of the floor. Meanwhile, Wembanyama scored 29 points, the most in the game, while also adding nine rebounds.

For the Knicks, Towns’ influence has extended far beyond a single game. Throughout the 2026 NBA postseason, he has been a critical piece of New York’s success, averaging 17 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. His ability to stretch the floor while battling elite big men on defense has made him one of the Knicks’ most valuable contributors during their championship run.
For Wembanyama, who is currently competing in the first postseason of his NBA career, the challenge is unlike many he has faced during the playoffs. The Spurs star has been a dominant force throughout the past few games. However, he now faces a formidable challenge from the Knicks and Towns. The 22-year-old will hope to bounce back in Game 3 with a win, which could make things easier for the Spurs for the remainder of the series.
