Virat Kohli form in T20 World Cup: The move to give Virat Kohli the opening position has backfired so far, as the star batter has scored runs at an average of only 11 after 6 innings.

Kohli, who most of the time in his career, played at number 3 in the limited overs cricket, has promoted as an opener after seeing his spectacular performance in IPL 2024 while opening the innings.

But his time with team India as an opener, is not going great, which is a big concern for the Indian team heading into the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Kohli has been able to score 66 runs in 6 innings, with 37 being his best. His strike-rate was also way below his standard (100).

The former India captain was out for a duck against USA during group stage clash and was again gone for a zero during a super 8s game versus Australia.

He unwantedly became the second batter for India in a single T20 World Cup edition to record 2 ducks after Ashish Nehra, who faced the same situation in 2010.

For the record, Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup history with 1207 runs.

With India set to play England in the second semifinal on June 27, Kohli’s role as a batter will become more crucial.

India has been playing extremely well in the tournament, having topped the group stage by beating Ireland, Pakistan and the USA, respectively. And followed the same pattern in super 8s by defeating Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia all in order.

Team India has adopted eight batters’ theory, which is working well in favour of the men in blue, and Rohit Sharma’s explosive 41-ball 92 against Australia right ahead of the knockout game is a big positive for India’s chances of winning the ICC title.
