The company also received the HSBC Customer Champion Award, recognising its commitment to outstanding customer service.
Organised by HSBC UK and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the awards attracted almost 3,000 entries from businesses across the UK. The awards were presented at a gala ceremony at The Savoy in London, hosted by Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Sara Davies MBE.
Founded in 2011, VOLT has grown from a family start-up into one of the UK’s leading electric bike brands. The company designs and assembles its award-winning electric bikes in Buckinghamshire and has supplied more than 30,000 e-bikes across the UK.
With a mission to electrify UK cycling and accelerate the adoption of healthier and more sustainable forms of transport, VOLT continues to champion greener mobility through high-quality electric bikes.
James Metcalfe, Co-Founder and CEO of VOLT Bikes, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have been named National Family Business of the Year and to have also received the HSBC Customer Champion Award.
These awards are particularly meaningful because they recognise the family-led values that have shaped VOLT from the very beginning.
This recognition validates the effort our team puts in every day to designing and building outstanding electric bikes, while creating a business that prioritises people, sustainability and exceptional customer service. It is incredibly rewarding to see those values recognised on a national stage, and we are immensely proud that our business has received this level of national recognition.”

Commenting on this year’s awards, Tom Wood, Head of SME Business Banking at HSBC UK, said:
“With 2,800 businesses entering the competition, it’s clear there’s no shortage of ambition, confidence and innovation in small businesses across the UK.”
Martin McTague OBE, National Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), added:
“These awards highlight the vital contribution that small businesses make to local communities and to the wider economy. Behind every success story is an entrepreneur who has taken risks, created jobs and delivered growth – often against the odds – and that deserves to be recognised and celebrated.”
