WBBL’s Top Batter Beth Mooney Re-Signs with Perth Scorchers Until 2026

The Perth Scorchers have secured a major coup, re-signing the most prolific batter in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) history, Beth Mooney, for another three years. Mooney, who has been a cornerstone of the Scorchers’ success, will remain with the team until at least the end of WBBL|12.

Mooney once again proved her dominance in WBBL|09, amassing 539 runs at an impressive average of 53.90, including five half-centuries and a century. Her consistent brilliance with the bat saw her finish as the competition’s leading run-scorer for the fourth consecutive season, maintaining a formidable strike rate of 144.50 throughout the campaign. This remarkable performance was instrumental in helping the Scorchers secure second place in the WBBL|09 regular season.

Across her illustrious WBBL career, Mooney has accumulated an unmatched 4,647 runs at an average of 47.42 from 131 matches, cementing her status as the league’s all-time leading run-scorer. For the Scorchers, she has been equally outstanding, topping their run-scoring charts with 2,089 runs at 49.73 from 57 matches. Beyond her batting prowess, the 30-year-old also serves as the team’s primary wicketkeeper and brings invaluable leadership to the squad.

Reflecting on her decision to extend her stay with the Scorchers, Mooney expressed her excitement:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to the Scorchers for the next three seasons. It is such an incredible organisation to be a part of – the playing group and staff are unbelievable, and we have been able to build a fantastic team culture over the past few seasons. Moving over to the Scorchers four seasons ago was the best decision of my career, it has allowed me to fall in love with cricket again, and I think this environment has given me the platform to thrive.”

Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach Becky Grundy praised Mooney’s impact on and off the field:

“We’re obviously thrilled that Moons will be part of our Scorchers squad for the next three seasons. Her world-class talent is obvious for those who watch her, but her calmness, composure, and game-sense are features of her game that have allowed her to perform so consistently for the Scorchers and Australia for a long period of time. Her leadership around the group also stands out, with her professionalism and attention to detail being a wonderful example to our younger players.”

With Mooney locked in, the Scorchers are well-positioned for another strong season as they look to add to their WBBL|07 title. The team still has two local and two international roster spots to fill before their highly anticipated season opener against the Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground on Sunday, 27 October.
