India’s star batter Jemimah Rodrigues believes that the team is highly motivated to win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 and create history at Lord’s. It is the same ground where India won their maiden men’s World Cup under the leadership of Kapil Dev in 1983.
Speaking to ICC, Jemimah said the thought of playing the final at Lord’s reminds her of India’s famous 1983 triumph. “Kapil Dev and the Indian men’s team won their first-ever World Cup there,” Jemimah said. “ We would love to win our first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup there. That would be super cool.”
India will head into the tournament with confidence after winning their maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (50-over format) in 2025. Jemimah revealed that the victory has given the team more belief and hunger to win another ICC trophy.
“The monkey is off the back,” she said. “But I don’t think it’s pressure. I think it’s more motivation because now you’ve tasted what it feels like to lift one World Cup. It makes you want one more and then one more and then one more.”
Jemimah also praised the attitude of the Indian team and said the players are determined to inspire women’s cricket. “We saw the kind of impact it had for women’s cricket in India. We just want to continue that legacy going to England. I think this team has character. When you want to win big games, you need people with character,” she said.
India are placed in Group 1, along with Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Netherlands. India will begin their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on June 14 at Edgbaston.
