The Premier League fixtures never fail to throw up some intriguing games when they are unveiled.
None more so than Liverpool’s visit to the Toon on the opening weekend.
A fixture that is always one that is looked out for because of the history of the fixture but this season will have added spice.
The return of Alexander Isak, the player who singlehandedly derailed last season’s summer transfer window for Newcastle United.
So much has been written about the way Isak destroyed so many transfer plans by going on strike and forcing Newcastle into selling him.
But that was then and this is now.
Liverpool come to Tyneside for the opening St James’ Park fixture of the season with a very strong squad and as one of England’s top sides. so we will certainly need to be up for a game.
They come with a new manager, who has already helped a less fashionable club overperform in the Premier League.
This may be a tough way to start the season but it also brings oppertuity.
To see if a pre-season with Eddie Howe can make signings bought from Alexander Isak’s fee, who did not perform at their best last season, can start to shine.
While we will also see if the influence of Ross Wilson can bring talent into the club to improve the squad.
As for Eddie Howe, he has nothing to prove, but I am sure he will be driven to improve our league position of last season.
So I am already counting down the days until the start of the season, positive that we will be stronger and more consistent.
While Alexander Isak will also be counting down the days. hopefully not expecting too many hugs and kisses.
