In the early hours of Tuesday, a video featuring Virat Kohli went viral, causing a stir on social media. The video shows the star Team India batter visibly upset after being referred to as ‘Chokli’ by a fan while he was shadow practicing in a room filled with his teammates. Kohli’s immediate reaction to the chants drew significant attention.
The Incident
Kohli was in the middle of his practice routine when a fan’s ‘Chokli-Chokli’ chants caught his attention. In the video, Kohli’s head snaps almost instantaneously towards the source of the chants, and his displeasure is evident. He reportedly responded to the fan with, “Not here,” highlighting his irritation at the situation.
Contradicting Evidence
However, another clip that surfaced later in the day casts doubt on the authenticity of the first video. The second video shows the fan either asking for an autograph or merely recording Kohli, which could explain the “Not here” remark without the context of derogatory chants. The presence of these conflicting videos has left the internet divided and puzzled.
Hindustan Times could not independently verify which of the two videos is the real clip. The ambiguity surrounding the incident has only fueled speculation and debate among fans and analysts.
Kohli’s Preparation for Sri Lanka ODIs
Kohli landed in Sri Lanka on Monday morning. Although the first practice session for the ODI squad was canceled due to rain in Colombo, Kohli participated in his first net session on Tuesday. Fans captured and shared clips of Kohli’s practice on X (formerly Twitter), showcasing him connecting well with the ball.
Kohli’s Recent Activities
Over the past month, Kohli spent time in London with his wife, Anushka Sharma, and their children, Vamika and Akaay. They were seen attending a kirtan and visiting a flower shop. Kohli’s return to the ODI format will mark his first 50-overs match for India since the 2023 World Cup final last November.
Kohli’s Record Against Sri Lanka
With the 2025 Champions Trophy seven months away, Kohli is expected to be a key player for India. His stellar record against Sri Lanka includes 2,595 runs from 25 ODIs at an average of 63.26, featuring 10 centuries. At Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium, Kohli has amassed 644 runs in 11 ODIs, averaging an impressive 107.3. Notably, in the 2023 Asia Cup match against Pakistan, Kohli scored an unbeaten 122.
