When are the 2026 NCC Bike Days – Hans on the Bike

Reading Time: < 1 minute

I created once again the overview of when and where the 2026 NCC Bike Days happen on the parkways in Ottawa and in Gatineau Park in Gatineau. As there are two different branches within the NCC dealing with this, you always get this information in two different parts, and I took it upon me to merge the data for the 2026 NCC Bike Days into one table once again.

Gatineau Park is very easy to reach from Ottawa if you take the Chief William Command bridge across the Ottawa river with bonus magnificent views. At some point, the NCC might build a temporary bike lane on the parkways along the canal this year. Be aware they are one way only, so stick to the suggested direction. This should hopefully relieve the narrow pathways along the canal somewhat. Mind your speed, you don’t want to knock someone over.

I am not detecting any major differences with last year, so here is the refreshed table for 2026. Note the park season starts a week earlier than the Parkways weekends.

For fun, as a thought exercise, I created a recreational bicycle network map for Ottawa-Gatineau on line, to see if that could work. As a bonus, for fun, I added numbered nodes.

Reading Time: 4 minutesEarlier this week I read a column by a Dutch architect who compares leaving his lawn chair in the street and what we would think of that. Yet car parking…

I am publishing his column “Parking is not a birth right” in English today with his permission.
