Signing veteran defensive tackle Javon Hargrave was one of Green Bay’s signature moves in free agency, and the signing could play massive dividends for the Packers this season.
Not only was Hargrave the most expensive contract the Packers agreed to this spring, but Green Bay is banking on his familiarity in coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s defense, from their time together with the Philadelphia Eagles, leading to significant production, especially while playing alongside All-Pro edge rusher MIcah Parsons.
Green Bay has good reason to be bullish.
Packers’ Javon Hargrave dominant in key metric
As CBS Sports points out, quarterbacks are about to have significantly less time in the pocket with Hargrave collapsing it up the middle.
According to NextGenStats, only All-Pro Chris Jones produced more quick-pressures on opposing quarterbacks than Hargrave did last season, posting a 5.4% quick pressure rate.
Javon Hargrave has generated the 2nd-highest quick pressure rate among defensive tackles since the start of 2023 (min. 500 pass rushes).

In addition to his 3.5 sacks, if Hargrave can continue to generate quick pressures up the middle, it could create more opportunities for Parsons and Green Bay’s other defenders to finish the deal and up their sack totals as well.
That’s the bet the Packers are making, and it could prove to be a winning combination to propel Green Bay’s defense this fall.
