Wave has been making bags and backpacks in Salt Lake City since 1979, but was purchased by the owners of Pit Viper eyewear in 2021. Its Thruster MTB fanny pack is constructed with outer fabric made from EPX 200 Ecopack fabric, which is derived from 100-percent recycled plastic, and inner fabric composed of 420D Ripstop nylon. This pack features the Buddy System, providing two spots for Bevy Buddy’s water bottle holders with one included.
An interior front panel is equipped with slots for tools, tire levers, CO2 cartridges and more. A zippered phone pocket is designed to accommodate large phones like the iPhone Pro Max, while a key clip ensures secure key storage. Additionally, it offers outer pad and jacket straps, YKK zippers and double stitching throughout.
It is available in a wide range of colors, such as black, pants (denim), cookies ’n’ cream, pinks (tested) and lilac.
Field Test Results
We were impressed by the Thruster’s comfort from the very first time we wore it, and that impression continued as we put time on it. Its easy-cinch waist adjustment system allows for quick and easy adjustment while wearing, and it has ample foam-backed padding at the back and hips.
It’s the small details that really set this hip pack apart from the rest, though. The internal organization slots are perfect for tools, and there is even one perfectly sized for a CO2 cartridge. The cell phone pocket is wisely located in back where it is the most protected from impacts, and the quick-release key clip is among the nicest we have used in any pack.
The side bottle holder can be easily removed via a quick-release clip and strap. Plus, you can add a second one. Its elastic drawstring not only keeps bottles secured, but allows you to put other things in it like a jacket because the top cinches up tight.
One of the best small details they got right was putting large pull tabs on the zippered closure that make entry as easy as it gets.
