Willow Nightingale Relinquishes TBS Championship; Final Stop Before Double or Nothing

We are four days from AEW Double or Nothing, and tonight we double down on both AEW Dynamite and Collision!

Unfortunately, we start the show with some bad news. The TBS Champion, Willow Nightingale, must relinquish her title after suffering an injury to her right shoulder during her title defense against Red Velvet this past Collision. She also withdraws from the Owen Hart Foundation tournament, but leaves the title with ten successful defenses. Nightingale won the title by defeating Mercedes Moné and ending her 584-day reign.

Alex Windsor, who was scheduled to face Nightingale in the tournament, will now face a wildcard on a later date.

Renee Paquette looks to get a word with Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida about the news. But before Statlander can speak, Shida is more focused on the AEW Women’s World Championship match at Double or Nothing featuring the champion Thekla, Jamie Hayter, and her tag partner, Statlander. Statlander is not cleared, but will be once Sunday rolls around and tells Shida to watch herself.

In 8-woman tag team action, The Triangle of Madness teams up with the Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, Athena, to face Thunder Rosa, Mina Shirakawa, and The Brawling Birds.

Shirakawa now looks to face Athena in a first-round match of the Owen Cup at Double or Nothing. Meanwhile, Thekla will get a taste of Hayter as she is one of the women she’s facing at the pay-per-view.

Shirakawa finds herself tied up with The Triangle of Madness throughout, but desperately makes a tag out to Rosa. Thekla looks to break things up, and all chaos ensues amongst the eight competitors. Athena is focused on taking out Shirakawa before Double or Nothing, but Shirakawa catches her with a kick through the ropes. The ROH Champ looks to fight back, but gets spiked on the floor instead.

Rosa is left in the ring, and Julia Hart sprays her with the black mist as the referee is distracted by Thekla. Thekla rolls her up and gets the win for her team.

The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions, Divine Dominion, will participate in a five-minute Eliminator match tonight. Their opponents tonight are Kayla Lopez and Elle Valentine. Unfortunately for them, the match lasts about three minutes as the Divine Dominion drops them for the win.
