Wilson Ballpark – Dutch Baseball Hangout

In the fourth episode of “New MiLB Ballparks in 2026” we pay attention to Wilson Ballpark, home of the Wilson Warbirds (former Carolina Mudcats).

Another case of an MLB club that insisted on adapting a ballpark to MLB standards without paying a dime. Fact was that the outdated ballpark in Zebulon didn’t have the opportunities to improve the facility, so when it comes to that it is understandable that the Mudcats moved. But… Since MLB forces their demands down the throat of MiLB clubs, one may expect they contribute in the upgrading or construction of a (new) ballpark. Especially in the case of the Milwaukee Brewers as they own the minor league team. But once again a big no as you can read below.

The City of Wilson has invested over $64 million to build a sports and entertainment stadium in downtown Wilson that will serve as a hub for baseball, concerts and community events. As a result of this investment, NSV Development will also be master developing over $300 million of new mixed-use multifamily, hospitality, office, retail and townhome projects across nearly 50 acres surrounding the stadium.

A number of leading companies joined the City of Wilson, NSV Development, and the Milwaukee Brewers to make this project successful, including Clancy & Theys | Barton Malow, Pendulum, Built-Form, Kimley-Horn and NEMA Management. The contribution of the Brewers? Moving their team from Zebulon to Wilson…

The best thing for Wilson is that the Warbirds will stay for (at least) 25 years as the Milwaukee Brewers have committed to stay for that long.

Let’s go to the ballpark.

The new ballpark has a capacity of 5,000 (3,700 fixed seats). The dimensions of the playing field are: left field, 325 feet; center field, 400 feet; right field, 325 feet, so another symmetrical field which has artificial turf by the way. The ballpark has a 360 concourse that gives a nice look on the field from every angle. Above the first (and only deck) there are twelve luxury suites.

Between ten and twelve private suites are also being constructed in addition to a baseball club longue, banquet facility which can accommodate 250 guests, and right field picnic area.

One of the amenities mentioned above is the Captain’s club. According to the Warbirds’ website, “the club is the most exclusive all-inclusive ticket option at the ballpark. Located along the third base line on the Club Level, the Captain’s Club provides a premium indoor lounge experience with elevated views of the field and unmatched hospitality. Designed for fans who value comfort, convenience and an elevated game-day atmosphere, the Captain’s Club combines private club access with 90 minutes of all-inclusive buffet service, access to a full-service bar and entry into a private club space that enhances every Warbirds home game in a refined, social setting.”

Another amenity is the hotel that is integrated into the ballpark. It is a branch of Home2 Suites by Hilton and is situated along the third base line (see photo on the left). Developers say the idea of integrating a hotel directly into the Wilson stadium was intentional from the earliest design stages.

Next to the aforementioned amenities there is the Pepsi Flight Deck, located on our Club level, the Warbirds Flight Deck is an open-air, covered, private area on the first base line that holds 50 guests with additional tables and chairs.

The final “party” area is the Poba Party Patio, an open air private area that holds up to 200 guests with high-top tables and chairs. The Poba Party Patio gets you up close to the action on field level. It is located at the end of the first baseline slightly behind the outfield wall.

Here are some photos of this new ballpark.
