Andre The Giant is being honored with a roadside marker in the town of Ellerbe, North Carolina, as reported by Associated Press.
Officials unveiled the marker on April 23 honoring the WWE Hall of Famer, who lived in a ranch just outside town for a number of years when not traveling around the world as part of his run in professional wrestling.
The article notes that Andre was a critical part of the town’s community, even taping TV and radio spots against a possible low-level radioactive landfill in 1990.
The marker, located in Richmond Coutny at NC Highway 73 and Old NC Highway, reads:
Andre The Giant. 1946-1993. Actor and professional wrestler. Was born Andre Roussimoff. Known for role in The Princess Bride in 1987. Lived nearby.
The news comes as Andre’s historic match against Hulk Hogan was honored at the WWE Hall of Fame during the weekend of WrestleMania 42, earning the Immortal Moment award during the Class of 2026 induction ceremony.
