Multiple reports indicate that the WWE locker room has voiced concerns over how the SmackDown Tag Division is being booked. Current WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest and R-Truth are featured regularly each week. However, they’ve had no real storyline besides R-Truth thinking that The Judgment Day is back together. Their reign comes after a very long feud between former Champs, The MFT, and The Wyatt Sicks. This long-standing rivalry came to a head at the SmackDown before WrestleMania, with all Wyatts and 2 MFTs being released a week later. Now, the SmackDown locker has voiced frustrations over the current direction of the Tag Team Division.
WWE Locker Room Concerned SmackDown Tag Division Is Cold
On last night’s Raw, The Street Profits defeated The Vision in the Main Event of the London show to win the WWE World Tag Titles. This high-stakes matchup also saw Main Event talent, Seth Rollins, get involved, as he heads into Night of Champions to face Bron Breakker in a Steel Cage Match.
While the World Tag Team Titles are being treated as an upper-tier Division on the red brand, the SmackDown Tag Team scene is hurting…at least according to the WWE locker room.
Multiple reports indicate that WWE Superstars are concerned with how the SmackDown Tag Division is being booked. Currently, most of the Tag Teams on SmackDown are considered “comedy acts.”
Wepa Up
Damian Priest was a World Champion just a couple of years ago. Meanwhile, R-Truth was the hottest-selling merchandise seller coming off his untimely release.
When the former Judgment Day stars were put together, many thought the partnership was temporary. However, the collective now known as Wepa Up shockingly won the gold in March 2026.
Since the victory, R-Truth has continued his schtick of being confused. To Damian Priest’s detriment, Truth has signed them up for matches he didn’t agree to. The multi-time 24/7 Champion also repeatedly talks about getting The Judgment Day back together. Unfortunately, with Rhea Ripley’s knee injury, some of this storyline started to slow down.
That said, R-Truth’s confusion has intensified now that Finn Balor is back on SmackDown. In fact, Damian Priest is questioning Finn Balor’s motives, which hints that these two might end up in a rivalry on the blue brand.
The Miz, Kit Wilson, and Los Garza
The Miz and Kit Wilson are teamed up, but are in an electrocution angle with Danhausen. In fact, there are rumors that Danhausen’s electrocution of Matt Cardona may cause the former IC Champ to reprise his Zack Ryder role.
Current pitches are for Danhausen and Zack Ryder to team at Saturday Night’s Main Event in MSG against Los Garza.
Los Garza recently entered Danhausen University after trying to pay the Very Evil, Very Nice One to curse the Spurs. Naturally, the Knicks mascot refused. This pleased Matt Cardona, who gave the blimp-loving curse-wielder his watch to keep the Knicks uncursed.
MFT
MFT are still considered top contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. However, the Tongans and Wepa Up have competed many times against each other. At this point, fans and talent believe these matches have run their course, much like the MFT vs. Wyatt Sicks feud did.
To keep MFT out of the Tag Team Title scene, Solo Sikoa has re-entered The Bloodline storyline. Meanwhile, Talla Tonga is being given a slight Singles push after an impressive showing during the King of the Ring Qualifying Matches.
Fraxiom
While Axiom and Nathan Frazer are one of the best Tag Teams pound-for-pound, they are rarely featured. In reality, the talented individuals are much smaller than other Tag Team Division members.
While Fraxiom has been on the main roster for over a year, they have yet to win WWE gold. Now, WWE is teasing a breakup between the two. On NXT, Axiom and Nathan Frazer teamed against Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno.
During the match, Axiom accidentally kicked his partner, causing some tension. However, Fraxiom smoothed things out and got the victory.
Is There Heat on Wepa Up from SmackDown Tag Division?
With Damian Priest in his 40s and R-Truth in his 50s, rumors were circulating that the WWE locker room is frustrated with the Champs. We can confirm that it is not the case.
In fact, the WWE locker room is disappointed that the two veterans don’t have a better storyline. Plus, they’re upset with their own positioning.
Unrest in the WWE locker room isn’t a new thing. Just ask Jade Cargill.
Speaking of Jade, she noted the opposite problem for her Singles reign during a time when the Women’s Tag Team Division was stacked. It comes down to Creative not being able to book multiple Tag Team stories.
Take, for instance, the Women’s Tag Division today. Brie Bella and Paige were flown overseas to sit in a locker room. The WWE Hall of Famer expressed her disappointment with the treatment she received recently.
So, there is no heat on R-Truth and Damian Priest. The entire locker room is happy the pair have the Titles, but wish things were better across the entire SmackDown Tag Division.
