WWE Night of Champions may already have some clear favorites behind the curtain, and a few big names are looking pretty safe heading into Saudi Arabia.
While speaking on WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, Joey Votes said they checked with a source familiar with WWE creative plans, and the current favorites include Cody Rhodes keeping the WWE Championship, Trick Williams keeping the United States Championship, and Iyo Sky winning Queen of the Ring. Joey made sure to give the usual warning, because WWE can switch things up whenever it wants. Still, the names they heard were pretty direct.
“Where we take a look at the current creative favorites heading into this weekend’s Night of Champions. Ple after speaking with the source familiar with future creative plans, we’re told that the current favorites to win their respective matches are Cody Rhodes to retain the WWE Championship, Trick Williams to retain the United States Championship, and IYO sky to be crowned Queen of the Ring.”
That was not the only match discussed. Tiffany Stratton is also believed to be on track to retain her championship, but Joey said that one was not given to them with the same confidence as Cody, Trick, and Iyo.
“Quick pause right there tc. For our aggregator friends, this is pro wrestling. They can change anything they want at any time. However, we’re also told there is a belief Tiffany Stratton will retain her championship, though that was not presented to us with the same level of certainty.”
The Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker match sounds like a different story. According to Joey, WWE has kicked around more than one finish for that match, which means it is not one they could call with confidence.
“As for Seth Rollins versus Bron Breakker, we’re told multiple finishes have been discussed internally, making the outcome one a source was not comfortable predicting with confidence.”
King of the Ring was also kept quiet on their end, so there was no firm call there.
“And regarding the King of the Ring finals, those plans remain quiet on our end as of today, so we’re throwing a few your way. Cody Rhodes, Trick Williams IYO Sky guy likely according to a source in creative TC, does anything strike you as surprising there?”
TC did not sound shocked by the list, but he was not exactly throwing a party over Cody Rhodes being lined up to keep the WWE Title. He said he still wants Gunther to take that spot.
“So with that being said, I don’t think there’s very many surprises here. I am a little bit unfortunately hearing that Cody Rhodes is slated to retain the WWE Championship. I’ve been saying for weeks now I think it’s time for him to drop that title. Gunther is, I think, one of the guys that should be in prime position to be one of the top guys in all of wwe.”
Joey then brought it back to the main point. WWE can always change direction, but as of that conversation, Cody Rhodes, Trick Williams, and Iyo Sky were the names creative was leaning toward.
“So, you know, things can change, but creatively, that’s where they’re leaning right now. We’ll see what goes down Sunday or Saturday.”
Night of Champions has a lot on the line, and if these creative favorites hold, fans should expect Cody Rhodes to walk out still champion, Trick Williams to keep his momentum rolling, and Iyo Sky to grab a major win in the Queen of the Ring finals. The real wild card is Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, because that one sounds like WWE may still have a few tricks sitting on the table.
What do you think about WWE leaning toward Cody Rhodes, Trick Williams, and Iyo Sky at Night of Champions? Are those the right calls, or should WWE shake things up in Saudi Arabia? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know what you think.
