LA Knight said he feels underappreciated in the wrestling business — and WWE producer Shane Helms basically told him he’s not alone.
The WWE producer took to Twitter and reacted to Knight’s comments by saying that feeling underappreciated is nothing new in the wrestling business, as Helms made it clear he is in the same boat as Knight: “Welcome to the club. There’s a lot of members!! 😊🤷🏻♂️”
That came after Knight spoke to Chris Van Vliet about his wrestling future and admitted the mental side of a 23-year career is starting to catch up with him. Knight also said he doesn’t see himself wrestling deep into his 50s or being used like legends who can return for major one-off moments.
“I look at the clock all the time. Physically, I can do this for a long time, but mentally I’m like… puppies. I don’t want to do this forever and beat my body up. I’m 23 years deep at this point. Wrestle into my 50s? F*** no. But would I like to come in and do the occasional appearance? Maybe. I don’t think I’ve been built up to the point where I can do an The Undertaker or Steve Austin type of thing, so that’s not in my future.”
Then Knight made it clear why he feels that way, saying he has never truly felt appreciated in the wrestling business, including WWE: “It’s just my feeling of never being appreciated. No matter what I’ve gone, I’ve always felt underappreciated in the wrestling business. I don’t know.”
Helms’ response makes the whole thing hit harder because he basically said Knight is far from alone. Knight may be one of WWE’s fans favorites, but his comments show he still feels the company and the business haven’t fully valued what he brings to the table.
