WWE Scrapped Major Stephanie Vaquer Match After Injury

WWE Scrapped Major Stephanie Vaquer Match After Injury

Stephanie Vaquer’s injury has already ruled her out for weeks, but now there’s confirmation it also changed WWE’s immediate plans for Backlash.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that a match between Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan was being discussed internally for the Backlash card before Vaquer got hurt. The match was never officially announced for the May 9 event in Tampa, but it had been considered as part of the lineup before her injury forced WWE to change direction.

“Backlash has three matches announced for 5/9 in Tampa. Liv Morgan vs. Stephanie Vaquer was never officially on the card but it was in discussion for the card before Vaquer’s injury.”

Vaquer was written off WWE TV during the April 27 episode of RAW with a storyline attack, but it was later confirmed that the injury, a second-degree AC joint sprain, is legitimate. At the time, the focus was on how long she’d be out, with early reports pointing to at least several weeks on the shelf and no confirmed return date.

Given the momentum between Vaquer and Morgan coming out of WrestleMania, the matchup would have made sense for the show. Instead, WWE had to pivot, leaving that program on hold for now.

There’s still no official timeline for Vaquer’s return, and while SummerSlam has been floated as a possible target, nothing is locked in. For now, she remains sidelined, and plans involving her are clearly on pause. So, this wasn’t just an injury that took Vaquer off TV; it pulled her out of a match WWE was already considering for a major event.

Do you think WWE should revisit Stephanie Vaquer vs Liv Morgan once she’s cleared, or move in a different direction? Let us know your thoughts and feedback.
