Rey Fenix may have grabbed the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship from Laredo Kid, but it sounds like AAA/WWE has no plans to make his reign a quick pit stop.

According to False Finish, Fenix is expected to get a run with the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship similar to what Penta is currently doing with the Intercontinental Championship. In other words, this may be more than just a cool title win — it could be a real spotlight run.

Fenix won the title at AAA Noche de los Grandes after finally taking down Laredo Kid, who had been using every dirty trick he could to stay champion. Since then, Fenix has already defended the title against Axiom, Laredo Kid, and Lince Dorado, so he is clearly being kept busy.

Now Fenix is set to defend the championship against Nathan Frazer on the June 26 edition of SmackDown, which makes this reported plan even more interesting. AAA’s Cruiserweight Title is not just sitting on the shelf — it is getting WWE TV time.

So at the end of the day, Rey Fenix’s title reign looks like it could be a big deal. If AAA/WWE really treats it like Penta’s Intercontinental Title run, Fenix may be in for one of the strongest stretches of his career.
