Yamaha’s PW-LINK System is now available to consumers following its preview to OEM partners at Eurobike last year.

The fully interchangeable platform means riders can find the same trusted Yamaha drive technology across a range of eBikes, with manufacturers able to switch drive units, batteries and displays on a single build.

Built at Yamaha’s HQ in Japan, the PW-LINK System brings drive units, batteries, and displays into a single interchangeable platform. Drawing on more than three decades of eBike systems engineering, it’s designed for a quieter, more responsive ride.

The PW-X4 and PW-S3 drive units are available now through Yamaha’s launch OEM partner, Raymon.

One platform for every kind of ride:

The PW-LINK System is built around two drive units, both developed on Yamaha’s 48V platform, delivering around 10% more power and 10Nm more torque at 70rpm and above versus the previous 36V generation. The drive units feature Yamaha’s Zero Cadence Technology, ensuring the motor adapts immediately to different riding styles, and have been engineered for quiet, low vibration performance.

Yamaha’s flagship eMTB motor, the PW-X4, headlines the range. A magnesium housing keeps it to 2.6kg while delivering up to 100Nm of peak torque.

PW-X4:

  • 100Nm peak torque (boost mode)
  • 2.6kg, magnesium housing
  • 48V platform – around 10% more power and 10Nm more torque at 70rpm and above versus the previous 36V generation
  • Rated output 250W / Max. power 800W
  • Dual-battery compatibility for extended range
  • Zero Cadence Technology for instant pedal response
  • Full compatibility across the PW-LINK lineup

The PW-S3 offers an all-rounder unit, weighing 2.8kg and run on the same 48V platform, with full compatibility across the PW-LINK lineup:

PW-S3:

  • 85Nm (boost mode)
  • Weight: 2.8kg
  • 48V platform
  • Rated output 250W / Max. power 750W
  • Zero Cadence Technology
  • Full compatibility across the PW-LINK lineup
  • Built around the rider:

Two batteries complete the PW-LINK System, both engineered to combine long range with integrated anti-theft and Yamaha’s advanced fire prevention structure.

The PW-LINK Integrated Battery 840 packs 842Wh into 4.35kg, giving riders the capacity for extended rides and bigger days in the mountains. The PW-LINK Integrated Battery 560 is the lighter option at 3.1kg, built for short to medium rides and daily use, with dual-battery compatibility for riders who need to go farther. Both batteries feature Yamaha’s industry-leading fire propagation prevention structure.

Two displays round out the system. The PW-LINK Side Display is a compact TFT LCD screen with a high-grade colour interface ensuring visibility in any weather and at all angles. The Side Display features customisable home screens and ergonomic controls within easy reach on the bars. The PW-LINK Integrated Display features a frame-embedded design, with a compact 1.9-inch screen for enhanced visibility. Both displays support ANT+ for pairing with third-party cycle computers.

One app, full control:

Launched alongside the system, and available for download on Google Store and App Store from 29th June, the Yamaha Motor On app offers Bluetooth connectivity to every component in the PW-LINK lineup, with a host of customisable features that can be tailored to each manufacturer.

Riders can fine-tune assist levels on the go, monitor battery status across dual-battery setups, and set owner authentication as an additional anti-theft layer. Real-time coaching, safe ride assist, performance logs and range indicators are all built in, with maintenance and update reminders handled automatically between rides.

Beyond Yamaha’s own components:

The PW-LINK System’s open architecture extends beyond Yamaha’s own components. Riders and manufacturers can effortlessly sync the system with complementary third-party technologies, allowing for custom connectivity setups built around the way each rider rides.

Fabio Marzola, Division Manager eBike Drive Units & Systems at Yamaha Motor Europe N.V., said: “We’ve spent three decades engineering and refining eBike systems since introducing the world’s first production electrically power-assisted bicycle in 1993.”

“We have brought all of that experience into one platform. The PW-X4 is the most powerful motor we have ever produced, and alongside the PW-S3, it’s a system designed around how people actually want to ride. Every product in this lineup has been tested extensively to ensure we deliver the most reliable, safe and best performing eBike system range in the market.”

The Yamaha PW-LINK System is available on the 2027 Raymon models Ravor LT [MSRP 5.999€], Ravor Pro [MSRP 5.499€] and Ravor Comp [MSRP 4.999 €], all already launched in the market.

Additional OEM partners will be announced.
