The New York Yankees’ stacked rotation could be getting even better pretty soon.
Star hurler Max Fried has been on the injured list since mid-May with an elbow bone bruise.
Aaron Boone’s team just got back Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole, and it shouldn’t be long before Fried also joins the party.
According to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, Fried is getting closer to doing some mound work.
Max Fried will continue to ramp up his recovery
“After meeting with the doc, Max Fried will continue to ramp up his throwing program. Aaron Boone said. He’s been throwing at 75 feet and will look to get to 90 or beyond over the next week. He’s also expected to undergo reimaging later next week to see if he can graduate to mound work,” Phillips shared on X.
Fried had been stellar early on in the season, holding down the front for the Bronx Bombers in Cole and Rodon’s absence.
Per Baseball Reference, he compiled a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, a 1.005 WHIP and 50 strikeouts with 19 walks in 10 appearances and 61.2 innings of work.
In his absence, the Yankees can still rely on a star-studded rotation that also features the likes of Cam Schittler, Ryan Weathers, Will Warren and Clarke Schmidt.
As such, there’s no reason to rush him back to the mound. The Yankees can afford to take their time with their star southpaw, especially given his long track record of injuries.
