Biggest Storylines To Watch Going Into Packers 2026 Training Camp
Training camp will kick off on July 23rd at 10:30am with the rookies reporting on the 18th.
First Storyline: EDGE Rusher
No position will look more different for Green Bay come week one than edge rusher. Micah Parsons will likely be out the first three-four games as he recovers from his ACL tear in December and Rashan Gary was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 fourth round draft pick.
That leaves Lukas Van Ness and Barryn Sorrell as their likely top two pass rushers going into week one (pending the NFL Draft). Van Ness has seen his production decline each year he has been in the league. His rookie season (2023) resulted in 4.0 sacks. He followed that up with 3.0 sacks in 2024 and 1.5 sacks in 2025. If there was ever a time for him to prove he can be a game wrecker in this league, the start of 2026 will be it.
Sorrell appeared in 14 games with one start last season (rookie year) and recorded 1.5 sacks. Fans have noticed that he has spent much of the 2026 off-season training with Micah Parsons, giving them hope for his future with the team. Sorrell spent all four years of his college career at Texas and broke out his senior year with six sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Second Storyline: Wide Receiver
While the wide receiver room doesn’t look completely different, the loss of Romeo Doubs (sign with the New England Patriots) and Dontayvion Wicks (traded to the Philadelphia Eagles) certainly changes things.
Christian Watson and Jayden Reed will be tasked with being the leaders of this group while Matthew Golden will have no choice but to get involved. Golden finished last season with just 29 receptions, 361 yards, and zero touchdowns. Expect those numbers to explode in 2026.
Skyy Moore has been the lone addition to the group this off-season but he will likely take on the kick/punt return duties with limited action on offense. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the team draft a late round wide receiver to add depth to the position.

Third Storyline: Cornerback
This will be the position to pay attention to closely. Green Bay released Nate Hobbs after just one year with the team leaving Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and newly signed Benjamin St. Juste as their top three options. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Brian Gutekunst use real draft capital on this position to try to find a star.
The Packers have also been heavily linked to Kenny Moore, the standout Indianapolis Colts cornerback who was just put on the trade block.
Expect to see changes to this position before the season starts.
