Ex-Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’ Future Gets ‘gun To My Head’ Outlook From Mike Tomlin

No one knows for sure whether former Green Bay Packers superstar quarterback and franchise face Aaron Rodgers has already played his final game in the NFL. He has not announced his retirement yet, and that leaves the door open for a potential return for at least one more run in the league.

Rodgers last played for Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2025 campaign, leading the team to a 10-7 record before making the NFL playoffs. The Steelers were out of the playoffs right away, as they were eliminated by the Houston Texans in the wild-card round. That was Tomlin’s last game as Steelers coach, as he later stepped down from his post.

Will ex-Packers QB Rodgers return to the Steelers? Tomlin shares opinion

As for Rodgers, his status is up in the air, but if you ask Tomlin, he believes the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player will be under center in 2026 for the Steelers.

“Man, if you had a gun to my head, I’d say it’s AR,” Tomlin told Maria Taylor on NBC Sports. “He has a love affair with the game of football.”

The Steelers are now coached by Mike McCarthy, who was Rodgers’ former coach with Green Bay.

Rodgers’ connection to McCarthy makes Rodgers’ Steelers outlook a little more intriguing. Although he is already 42 years old, Rodgers still seems to be a much more capable quarterback than any of the QBs in Pittsburgh’s fold. As it stands, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Drew Allar, who has just been drafted by Pittsburgh.
