Former two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes took glee in Norma Dumont’s controversial loss at UFC Vegas 116 on Saturday.
UFC bantamweight contender Norma Dumont suffered a disappointing loss to Joselyne Edwards at UFC Vegas 116 last Saturday. In a controversial, back-and-forth matchup, Edwards walked away with a unanimous decision win as Dumont almost immediately protested the official decision in the cage.
It was a disappointing result for Dumont after the talented bantamweight entered UFC Vegas 116 on a six-fight winning streak. She’s repeatedly called for title shots against Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison during her short time in the 135 lb division.
Nunes and Dumont have traded subtle barbs in recent years, particularly when Nunes announced her return to MMA to fight Harrison. After Dumont’s loss, Nunes responded with multiple ‘laughing’ emojis on her Instagram, showing indirect mockery of the result.
As Nunes continues to wait for Harrison to be medically cleared to return to fight, Dumont hit back at the UFC Hall of Famer’s latest taunts.
Norma Dumont hits back at Amanda Nunes after UFC Vegas 116 defeat
In a recent Instagram story post, Dumont responded to Nunes’ online mockery of her UFC Vegas 116 defeat.
“I’m very happy that Amanda (Nunes)’s internet is working again. Because it’s been six fights, four years if I’m not mistaken, that I went undefeated, and I challenged her to fight in every fight and she never responded,” Dumont said of Nunes.
“She never responded to any message I sent directly to her challenging her to a fight, she didn’t respond to any of the pages… But now she’s decided to show up, so I’m very happy that her internet is back. And now I understand that our conversation will be different.
“And I’m very happy about that, because I’m sure that in the next fight, we’ll come out with our arms raised and this conversation will still yield a lot,” Dumont continued on Nunes. “I think this has become very interesting now.” (h/t AgFight)
It’s uncertain if Nunes will entertain the idea of fighting another top contender if Harrison isn’t planning on returning to the cage in the coming months. She hasn’t fought since a win over Irene Aldana at UFC 289, and announced her retirement in the cage after the official decision was read.
