Salim Adams was in imperious form as Medeama SC as they edged fellow title contenders Bibiani Gold Stars in a closely knitted game at TnA Park in Tarkwa.
The home team has not lost to any team at home bar Hohoe United and was looking to carry on that record against Gold Stars in a game that had a lot riding on it following a neck-to-neck battle.
Defending Ghana Premier League champions, Gold Stars, who were yet to beat Medeama away from home, were handed the shock of their lives as they conceded an early penalty.
Salim Adams converted from the penalty spot in the 20th minute to put Medeama ahead.
The 23-year-old box-to-box midfielder curled in a free kick to set the game at 2-0.
Both teams gave the game their best in both halves, but the Tarkwa lads run off with three points, two goals, and a cleansheet in the bag.
The win extends Medeama’s lead at the top of the table to five points with just four matches remaining.
They play Berekum Chelsea in the next league fixture away from home.
GoldStars will be at home to Samartex in another Western region derby.
