Danhausen’s WWE run started with fans loudly rejecting him at Elimination Chamber. Now? WWE executives are using him as one of the company’s biggest success stories.
WWE President Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque openly praised Danhausen during a WWE employee Town Hall meeting after his popularity completely exploded over the last two months.
Danhausen debuted at Elimination Chamber after weeks of mysterious backstage crate teases on RAW and SmackDown. When he finally popped out, the crowd reaction was rough, with plenty of fans openly booing the segment.
That didn’t stop him from catching fire almost immediately afterward. Since then, Danhausen has become one of WWE’s hottest merchandise sellers, landed crossover attention outside wrestling, appeared at WrestleMania 42, and even competed at Backlash.
During the Town Hall, WWE management reportedly showed clips of Danhausen while specifically praising how fast he managed to turn things around after the negative debut reaction.
The craziest part may be the merch numbers. WWE revealed Danhausen is currently the company’s number two merchandise seller despite only joining WWE a little over two months ago.
Even more wild, three separate Danhausen shirts are reportedly sitting inside WWE’s current top five best-selling merchandise items. WWE executives also praised Danhausen’s ESPN appearances and the attention surrounding his “curse” and “uncurse” antics involving the New York Knicks.
The whole thing has become one of the most unexpected WWE success stories of the year. A guy who got booed out of the building during his debut is now apparently outselling almost everyone in the company. That’s a pretty good turnaround for Danhausen.
