Kyle Edmund is asking for something different from British tennis fans at Wimbledon this year.

Edmund is a former Australian Open semi-finalist and reached a career-high ranking of world number 14.

The former British number one dealt with many injuries in the latter stages of his career, with Edmund officially retiring from tennis last year.

As he continues life after playing professional tennis, Edmund has a wish for British tennis fans at Wimbledon.

Kyle Edmund wishes British fans would be more like French and American tennis fans

Edmund appeared in the latest episode of the Nothing Major Podcast, where he spoke about the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

When speaking to John Isner, Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson, Edmund highlighted the differences between British tennis fans and American tennis fans.

Edmund revealed his wish for British tennis fans to be more vocal in their support of home players, as he admitted how difficult it can be on the biggest courts when the often ‘polite’ Wimbledon crowd is being quiet.

“The intensity of it all when the crowd is loud, you can feel it,” said Edmund. “…As a Brit, when it’s quiet, it’s really quiet and you can feel that when things are not going well.”

Edmund added, “That’s one thing that you guys do great is you support your own, like the Americans really support Americans.

“And in Britain, I would love for Brits at Wimbledon to support us a bit more for us in our favour, like I feel like it’s a lot more polite compared to when you go to France or America, that type of vibe.”

Now that the draw is out, which British player do you think will do the best at Wimbledon?

What was Kyle Edmund’s best result at Wimbledon?

Edmund’s admission about the difficulties he faced with the Wimbledon crowd are reflective in his seven appearances at the grass court major.

For many British players, Wimbledon is where they produce their best Grand Slam results, but that was not the case for Edmund.

Edmund lost in the first round of his first four appearances at Wimbledon, and never actually surpassed the third round of The Championships.

Year Kyle Edmund’s result at Wimbledon
2013 First Round
2014 First Round
2015 First Round
2016 First Round
2017 Second Round

The last appearance of Edmund’s Wimbledon career actually came in 2019, despite officially playing his last match six years later.

Edmund will not be at SW19 as a player this year, but there are 21 British players in the Wimbledon singles draws for the home crowd to support.

The Wimbledon main draw will get underway on Monday, June 29.
