Adam Azim is aiming to go one better than Teofimo Lopez by stopping Steve Claggett on Saturday.

Rising British hope, Azim (14-0, 11 KOs) clashes with former world title challenger, Claggett (40-8-2, 28 KOs) at the OVO Arena in Wembley, live on BBC Two.

The visitor’s sole world title challenge came against two-weight champion, Lopez who beat him clearly on the scorecards in 2024.

Azim admits he is looking to hand the Canadian just a second defeat inside the distance in their super lightweight contest.

“It would be tremendous if I can get a stoppage,” the 24-year-old told proboxing-fans.com following Thursday’s final press conference.

“Obviously a knockout would be great as well, because going into a fight like that and getting the stoppage and Teofimo didn’t do it, that would be great.

“I like someone coming at me throwing a lot of shots.

“It’s easier for me to pick them off.

“If he’s going to come at me like that then great.”

‘The Assassin’ hasn’t fought since halting Kurt Scoby in the 12 round in November at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, extending his record to 14 straight professional wins.

The Slough man was scheduled to fight in January, but his clash with Gustavo Lemos was cancelled after both men picked up injuries.

Azim is ranked at seven with the IBF and is hopeful of landing a shot at the winner of the Lindolfo Delgado vs Movladdin Biyarslanov, which was ordered for the vacant title earlier this week.

“That would be great,” he added.

“If I do what I have to do on Saturday, get the stoppage, do better than what Teofimo done.

“Then hopefully take a fight against Delgado on a Riyadh Season [card] would be great.”

Azim is also ranked in the top 10 by both the WBO and WBC, where Shakur Stevenson and Dalton Smith hold the titles respectively.

A Smith-Azim showdown has been touted for years, but remains on the backburner until the latte secures a world title of his own.
