Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has finally been fully unveiled after months of rumours and teases. Here’s what we know about Edward Kenway’s return so far.
One of the worst-kept secrets in gaming (something that even publisher-developer Ubisoft has admitted), this remake of the 2013 classic aims to refresh both its visual presentation and the gameplay. Back in the day, the Assassin’s Creed series hadn’t transformed into massive open-world RPGs, but much of its latter ambitions was already there. How much has been kept intact and how much is changing?
Here’s what we know about AC Black Flag Resynced so far, but stay tuned for updates as its launch approaches.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Release Date
After a number of leaks, the official AC Black Flag Resynced reveal event confirmed the release date that had been floating around for a while.
- Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced release date: July 9, 2026
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Gameplay
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will retain the action-adventure nature of the original and, unlike the recent main entries in the series, isn’t an open-world RPG. Of course, the progression systems of old remain in place, but you won’t be chasing stat boosts and leveling up in a more RPG-y fashion.
Combat has been reworked to be more action-oriented though, with parries, combos, and agile attacks taking more priority over defence and the counter-attacks the original AC games were known for. Likewise, stealth and parkour have received additions like crouching and advanced moves that make freerunning and jumping more flexible, in line with the recent updates to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Last but not least, it appears new tools have been added to Edward’s arsenal for both combat and silent kills.
On that note, it’s been confirmed the highly divisive tailing and eavesdropping missions no longer feature insta-fail and can be completed in more ways if the objectives notice Edward’s presence. It remains to be seen how other activities like diving and treasure-hunting have evolved though.
Last but not least, new officers add new abilities to the naval combat, a dynamic weather system makes navigating the sea more unpredictable and dangerous, and pets add more levity to your crew.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Story
As far as we can tell, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag’s central storyline hasn’t been altered for the remake, so Edward Kenway’s adventure should remain mostly untouched. If you’re coming in fresh, you just need to know he’s a daring Welsh-born privateer-turned-pirate who runs into the plans of the both the Templars and the Assassin Brotherhood. You can guess which side he chooses by now, but we’ll save the twists and turns.
We know, however, new story arcs for some of your pirate mates, such as Blackbeard, have been added. Moreover, the new recruitable officers all have new questlines of their own, and developer team is promising even more surprises when the full game releases.
