ATP Barcelona Best Bets Including Alex de Minaur vs Hamad Medjedovic

The ATP 500 Barcelona Round of 16 on April 15 features two matchups where the favourites look well-positioned to advance. Tomas Martin Etcheverry’s consistency on clay gives him a clear edge over Nuno Borges, while Alex de Minaur’s experience and past success in Spain make him a strong pick against Hamad Medjedovic.

ATP 500 Barcelona 1/8-Finals

Borges – Etcheverry: 15.04.2026 11:00 CEST
H2H: 1-0

Nuno Borges has lost four of the last five matches. Last week in Monte Carlo, Borges lost to Rublev in the opening round in three sets. So far this season, the Portuguese has lost two of the three clay-court matches he has played. This week in Barcelona, Borges easily defeated Mannarino in the opening round in straight sets. He was great under pressure, saving all seven breakpoints he offered. Around this time last season, Borges played in Madrid, where he lost to Davidovich Fokina in the second round in straight sets.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Monte Carlo, Etcheverry lost to Alcaraz in the 1/8-Finals in three sets. This week in Barcelona, Draper retired mid-match against Etcheverry late in the deciding set. Last season in Barcelona, the Argentine lost to de Minaur in the opening round in straight sets. He was the semifinalist here in 2024.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Etcheverry is the clear favourite in this matchup, and we agree. He overcame Draper in the opening round and fought hard against Alcaraz last week, and kept it close. On the other hand, Borges struggled on clay last season. We expect Etcheverry to dominate the rallies.

That being said, Etcheverry covering the games handicap is a value bet.

De Minaur – Medjedovic: 15.04.2026 12:30 CEST
H2H: 1-0

Alex de Minaur has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Monte Carlo, de Minaur lost to Vacherot in the quarterfinals in three sets. This week in Barcelona, de Minaur defeated Ofner in the opening round in straight sets. He was great under pressure, saving all four breakpoints he offered. Last season in Barcelona, the Australian lost to Alcaraz in the quarterfinals in straight sets. His most significant result was in 2022, when he lost to Alcaraz in the semifinals in three tight sets.

Hamad Medjedovic has won four of his last five matches. This week in Barcelona, the Serb qualified for the main draw of the tournament. In the final qualifying round, Medjedovic defeated Halys in three tight sets. He even saved one match point in the deciding set tiebreak. In the opening main draw round, Medjedovic defeated Trungelliti in straight sets. He trailed 1-4 in the opening set, but turned it around.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, de Minaur is the favourite in this matchup, and we agree. He spent most of his young career playing in Spain and enjoys playing in Barcelona. At the beginning of the season, de Minaur demolished Medjedovic at the Australian Open. We expect a similar outcome tomorrow.

That being said, de Minaur covering the games handicap is a value bet.
