Fraser Stewart bridged a three-year gap to land Scottish 10,000m gold at Crownpoint.
The Cambuslang Harriers athlete, 38, made the most of his opportunity at the GAA Miler Meet with pacing help from his regular training partner, Jamie Burns.
Stewart was a familiar figure on national championship podiums in 2023 when he won the Half Champs in Inverness and was delighted with victory again in 30:09.12.
Inverclyde AC’s John Bell took silver in 31:07.02 with third place for Dundee Hawkhill Harriers athlete, Ryan Donald, in 31:21.44.
Unfortunately with a number of distance events taking place in a short period this spring, there was a really low turnout and particularly in the female categories.
‘I am thrilled to win and be back on top of the podium after three years,’ said Fraser.
”Back in 2023 I won the Half, was second in the 10-Mile and then third in the marathon so I had a strong spell on the roads. I knew I was in good shape coming here tonight and I like 10k on the track.’
Masters medals were also awarded in a number of categories (*details to be added in due course).
The 10,000m Championship programme was augmented on the night with a number of 800m races for young athletes. Dozens of athletes in the U18 and U16 age categories took the chance to start their season with races over two laps.
As always on these occasion, superb volunteer support made the event happen. Thanks to the GAA volunteers, our scottishathletics Officials, coaches, pace-makers and venue staff.
The next Miler Meet is on Friday 22 May.
