Brasschaat Keeps Unbeaten Status – Dutch Baseball Hangout

In today’s game between Brno and Brasschaat, there was nothing at stake but the home field advantage in tomorrow’s championship game. With both teams having secured a spot in that game already, neither used their best pitchers today.

Hrosi Brno 5 – 11 Brasschaat Braves

Hrosi Brno started the game with Mathias Schwarzinger, normally an outfielder, Brasschaat Braves sent Stefan Thomas Arzaga Leo, also an outfielder, to the mound.

Back-to-back homers by Thomas de Wolf and Lucas Scott in the bottom of the first inning, gave Brasschaat an early lead. In the third inning, three consecutive singles by Harry Deliyannis, Lino Ballardini, and Thomas de Wolf lead to a run, followed by an RBI double by Lucas Scott. Matthew Joossens then singled to first base to drive in Thomas de Wolf, followed by a groundout by Stefan Thomas Arzaga Leo, that drove in Lucas Scott for the fourth run of the inning.

But Brno bounced back inthe top of the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Mathias Schwarzinger hit a sac fly to drive in Arnost Dubovy from third. With another bases-loaded-situation, Michal Pokorny hit a two-RBI double down the left field line, followed by Jan Pospisil, who doubled to left field and drove in Vitezlav Novy for the fourth run for Hrosi.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Harry Deliyannis homered to left field. With runners in scoring position, Lucas Scott doubled down the left field line to drive in both runners.

In the sixth, Stefan Thomas Arzaga Leo drove in two runs on a home run to right center field. Hrosi Brno added one more run to their total in the seventh inning, but after that, the gas was out of the tank.

Stefan Thomas Arzaga Leo earned the win. In five innings he gave up four runs on seven hits and four walks, as he struck out three.
Mathias Schwarzinger took the loss after four innings of work in which he gave up nine runs on thirteen hits and struck out one.

Lucas Scott was the best hitter for Brasschaat as he went 4 for 5 with four RBI and two runs scored, with a home run and a double.

Defensive wise today’s game was a good one as neither team committed an error.
