Calgary Flames announce Qualifying Offers

The Calgary Flames announced that they have tendered Qualifying Offers to three players, leaving seven players unqualified. Qualifying the three players means that Calgary will keep their negotiating rights and would receive draft compensation in the case they sign elsewhere.

Tendered players

Nemec was just recently acquired by the Flames before the draft, and Othmann was traded at the deadline for Jacob Battaglia straight up. Strömgren is a former 2nd round pick who has registered decent numbers in the AHL for the Calgary Wranglers.

Non-tendered players

None of these players have truly turned heads in their time with the Flames organization. Grushnikov was a part of the Chris Tanev trade, one that doesn’t look great in hindsight. Beecher is a waiver-wire pickup from this past season and was an interesting addition at the time. According to Pat Steinberg, Owen Say will be signing either an AHL or NHL deal once cleared by doctors. In February, he underwent season-ending surgery. If the six others do leave the organization, then spots are opened up for younger players from Europe, or potentially when their seasons are over in the NCAA, to make the jump to the AHL.
