Sometimes I wander around town looking for inspiration for these comics. And sometimes inspiration almost hits me on the way home from a ride. Here’s a comic about that.
There’s plenty of research suggesting that most drivers, even drivers who themselves ride bikes, dehumanize cyclists when they’re behind the wheel. When I’m riding around cars, I find myself ineffectively trying to fill that gap. I’m always imagining the reasons folks are in a hurry, aren’t giving me room on the shoulder, aren’t following traffic laws. There are a million reasons to be stressed and distracted while you’re driving, and none of them are worth hitting a cyclist or pedestrian.
