Could the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins work out an Elias Pettersson deal?
Daily Faceoff: Jeff Marek, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton on if there could be a deal to be made between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks involving Elias Pettersson.

Marek: “Sticking with Vancouver, the Elias Pettersson conversation is always fascinating. I’ve always wondered about the Pittsburgh Penguins. We know that Kyle Dubas is in love with the reclamation project and taking big swings, or just trying to hit singles and landing on players.
The Time Was Right for Darnell Nurse and the Edmonton Oilers to Part Ways
Pettersson to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Vancouver has to take a bad contract. So Vancouver takes Ryan Graves. Pittsburgh picks up the whole contract, and it’s two conditional picks. Like two seconds that can turn into firsts if he hits certain offensive targets. So, it could be two first-round picks, and you get out from under the weight of that contract.
Yaremchuk: “And for…”
Marek: “How about that?
Yaremchuk: “…Pittsburgh, you take the four and a half million off of Graves, you kind of like do that subtraction on Pettersson. And it’s like, you know what, I would, I think that’s smarter business than if they just go into free agency. And like you look at some of the projections on like Anthony Mantha, who they can afford, but I’m like, I’ll take a shot on Pettersson at what would basically be like $6.5 million or somewhere in that range. I’ll take a shot on Pettersson at that before I give Mantha the $7 million. What do you think, Hut’s?
Hutton: “And then I, and then I think of a factor of like putting him in a setting with like Eric Karlsson, a fellow Swede who’s a legend. And then you’re with Sidney Crosby and Malkin, and just like the effect that that can have on him. I do. I do like that.
I do like the fact, and I think Dubas could be like, we take this chance on him. What could be, right? And now you have those incentives in there, where it’s going to motivate him. And then you’re playing along Sidney Crosby, like, talk about getting your game going again.
NHL Rumors: Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, and the Vancouver Canucks
Yeah, that one, it.. I, um, it’s.. it seems so obvious that I’m waiting for someone to say, ‘Yes, but…” Like, here’s what you’re missing on this one Marek, because this one just kind of seems like a, like, like an obvious one here. I mean, having said that, considering how Rutherford and A’lvin love dealing with their old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it hasn’t happened, there’s probably a reason, and that’s why it’s probably not going to happen with the new general manager there.
