Ex-WWE Star Could Be Headed To TNA Wrestling

Apollo Crews may not be sitting around long after his WWE run, because TNA Wrestling already had his name on the board.

While speaking on WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, Joey Votes said there has been talk about TNA having interest in Crews once his WWE non-compete is up. That does not mean he is signed, sealed, and walking through the door tomorrow, but it does mean his name has been discussed behind the scenes.

“Prior to the seemingly ever changing landscape of the past week, we have heard some chatter regarding TNA having interest in Apollo Crews once his WWE non compete clause expires. While it is unclear where things currently stand amid recent developments, sources indicated that Crews had been discussed internally as a potential roster addition for later this year when he becomes available.”

That “recent developments” part matters, because TNA has had some changes going on behind the curtain. Joey brought up Tommy Dreamer and Sami Callihan being out, and made it clear that nobody knows who may have been pushing for Crews internally before things shifted. Joey also said the idea of TNA going after someone like Crews is not exactly shocking, because TNA has been known to scoop up talent after their WWE run ends.

“So not the most shocking thing in the world, but TNA always in the mindset of acquiring talent that may have been released elsewhere, think Apollo Crews. My opinion has still a world of potential. Guy certainly knows what he’s doing in the ring.”

TC was all for the idea, saying TNA could be the kind of place where Crews gets a fresh chance after being stuck in WWE’s crowded system.

“It’d be a good fit for him though. I think TNA is a good spot again. Having familiar faces that kind of were mistreated or undervalued elsewhere allows me to want to invest in them as a viewer. Hey, can he do better here in TNA?”

Joey then added that Crews would not have to mess around near the bottom of the card if he showed up in TNA.

“He can go right to the top there.”

TC agreed and said Crews still has plenty of tools, even if WWE never fully pulled the trigger on him.

“I think he could. I think he has a lot of elements that are you want to have in a wrestler. So I like him. In a very crowded WWE roster, I don’t think he ever really was able to get to that next level.”

Apollo Crews has always had the look, the athletic ability, and the resume to be taken seriously. WWE gave him moments here and there, including an Intercontinental Title run, but he never became a consistent top guy there. TNA could give him a clean reset, and if they actually want him, that might be exactly what he needs.

Now the question is whether TNA still has Crews in its plans after all the recent changes. If they do, this could be a smart pickup for a company that knows how to take former WWE names and give them something meaningful to do.

Do you think Apollo Crews would be a good fit in TNA Wrestling, or did WWE miss the boat with him already? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know what you think.
