‘Fake Expense Reports’ — NFL Analyst Reveals How The Athletic Could ‘Sue’ Dianna Russini Over Mike Vrabel Controversy

The scandal involving Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini has been one of the biggest storylines of the 2026 NFL offseason. It started after Page Six published pictures of the two together from a trip to a luxurious, adults-only resort in Arizona in April. The two were seen spending time together in the hot tub, by the pool, and having an hour-long breakfast at the patio, while also holding hands and hugging in the pictures.

As a result of this controversy, Russini had to resign from her position at The Athletic amid the organization’s internal investigation into her conduct.

Analyst Weighs In on Dianna Russini’s Potential Legal Troubles Amid Mike Vrabel Scandal

Analysts on “98.5 The Sports Hub” revealed that NFL podcaster Tony Farmer recently brought the situation to light by claiming that his colleague at The Athletic told him the organization is reportedly preparing to release its findings from the Russini investigation in a couple of weeks.

While discussing what the Athletic would share after the investigation, one analyst, Frank, hinted that the organization could potentially sue Russini.

“Fake expense reports submitted for travel to be with Vrabel and not doing her job. She could have been putting those in all the time and getting reimbursed for fake expenses,” Frank said. “I’d go after that for sure.”

“If they’re going to go after her and sue her, for them to get it back, absolutely,” Frank replied when asked whether The Athletic should reveal the findings of the investigation to the public.

Another host also blamed The Athletic, saying they were the ones who hired Russini and gave her a massive salary.

“She was working for you while this was going on. You hired her while this was going on,” Marc Bertrand said. “ESPN is involved in this in a way, too. Like, you know, they’ve skated. She worked for The Athletic when this happened, but before that, she had been working for ESPN while this stuff was going on. You know, they’ll have nothing to say. They’re smart. They’ve stayed below the radar on this one, pretending that none of it has happened.”

The Russini and Vrabel story became a big one after more details of their alleged relationship made headlines, including photos from a bar in 2022 and the revelation that they rented a boat together in 2021 while the popular reporter was pregnant with her first child.

While Russini has yet to accept the allegations, Vrabel, after initially calling the whole situation ‘laughable,’ reversed course, accepting that he hasn’t been meeting the standards he has set for himself.”
