Forza Horizon 6 save file issue to be addressed in Xbox update

Forza Horizon 6 launched last month to record player numbers and critical acclaim. It’s been a less positive experience for some, however.

Over the last few weeks, players have been reporting a major bug where game save files can either be lost or reset, forcing them to restart their game progress.

Playground Games has since responded, with a post on the Forza Support page confirming that the issue is under investigation.

A system update for Xbox Series X|S is set to roll out today to “help improve these issues.” These fixes have already been released for PC via the Gaming Services client.

While the cause of this issue has not yet been confirmed, Playground Games recommends disabling Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S consoles in the meantime.

To do this, highlight the game box art, press the Menu button and go to Manage game and add-ons. From here, go to Quick Resume settings and select Disable Quick Resume.

Playground Games also recommends taking the following precautions to reduce the risk of losing save files:

  • Ensure you are online when ‘quitting’ the game.
  • Give your save time to sync to the cloud before powering off or switching devices.
  • Do not force quit the game during save screens.
  • Do not power off the device during gameplay.
  • If you receive an “Out of space” pop up with a game crash, it is recommended that you check your storage and restart your console via the menu option or Xbox controller button.

For players who regularly switch between devices, Playground suggests always quitting the game on console or exiting to desktop on PC after finishing a session and ensuring the save icon is not visible when closing.

The developers also suggests waiting a few minutes before tuning off the console or shutting down the PC to ensure that the latest cloud save is synchronised.
