The Prancing Horse experienced a weekend of high expectations that ultimately left a somewhat bittersweet taste. Charles Leclerc suffered a devastating crash and retirement at his home race, while Lewis Hamilton secured a strong podium finish to prove his ongoing competitiveness. Here is what Fred Vasseur had to say following the conclusion of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Numerous questions have emerged after the race in the Principality, but the primary talking point revolves around the ongoing brake controversy, which even prompted an official press statement from supplier Brembo. Charles Leclerc suffered a sudden mechanical failure, explaining in his own words that he was left completely helpless as a mere passenger in the cockpit. While the Monegasque driver explained the incident very clearly himself, Fred Vasseur wanted to share his perspective on the matter, while also making sure to congratulate Lewis Hamilton on his stellar podium achievement.
Vasseur: “We will analyze exactly what happened to ensure we…”
“For Charles, of course, it was a very frustrating result. We experienced brake issues throughout the entire weekend, and it was clear that something didn’t work the way it should have. We will carefully analyze the situation, understand exactly what went wrong, and make sure to resolve the issue before we head to Barcelona. Charles was in a strong position on track, and it is highly disappointing to lose those crucial championship points, especially at his home race. We must remain focused on ourselves, keep working hard, and maximize every single opportunity. The overall mood within the team remains positive, we are moving in the right direction, and in just a few days we will have another opportunity to keep pushing forward.”
Thanks to his podium finish and the technical misfortunes of his rivals, Lewis Hamilton has climbed to second place in the drivers’ championship standings with 90 points, now sitting 66 points behind the current leader, Kimi Antonelli. The Maranello squad remains hopeful that Ferrari can deliver a strong performance in Spain, aided by an upcoming package of new technical updates. However, Charles Leclerc will first need to find his rhythm and proper pedal feel while adapting to the Carbon Industrie brake discs.
“We must remain optimistic because, overall, this was another positive weekend for us. Lewis secured his second consecutive podium finish, and I believe he extracted the absolute maximum that our package could offer today. Over the course of the last few races, we have watched him gain significant confidence and become much more comfortable in the car, which is incredibly encouraging and reflects the steady progress we are making as a team.”
