Intel Extreme Masters Atlanta 2026 lands as a major stop on the IEM circuit, a circuit that was shaped under ESL and tied to ESL Grand Slam VII. A wide group of partners backs the event, with Intel, Acer Predator, DHL, Qiddiya, Monster Energy, U.S. Air Force, 1xBet, White Market, Logitech G, FACEIT, and ZOWIE all lent their name to the project. The competition centres on Counter-Strike 2 and takes place offline at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, USA over 11 May 2026 to 17 May 2026. For those 7 days, 16 teams are going to be competing in the Masters tier of the ESL Pro Tour, all hoping to bag a share of the $300k prize pool. The pool of active duty maps for the matches will be Ancient, Anubis, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke & Overpass. These are the competitive maps everyone is up against right now, but of course, as the Counter-Strike 2 scene evolves, the map pool may change.
Right from the opening stage, the format begins to influence decision-making across teams. Sixteen squads split into two groups of eight, and then the path to the top follows a double-elimination GSL method. Each of the matches is a best of three, pushing teams to balance planning with steady execution. Stakes rise step by step, since only three teams from each group can continue. Group leaders move straight into the semifinals, while second-place finishers enter the quarterfinals with higher seeding. At the same time, teams in third place reach the same round but carry lower seeds, creating a visible gap in positioning. Once the playoffs kick in, the margin for error is gone. The format now means single elimination and one loss will see a team packing it in. The matches are still best of three, except the final has a best of five, giving the final clash more room to decide the winner.
The 300K US dollar pool is up for grabs by all 16 teams and the prize money is decided by where they end up. First place gets 125K US dollars, while 2nd place takes 50k US dollars. A drop to 3rd and 4th place gets 30k and 20k US dollars respectively. Moving further down, teams in fifth and sixth each receive 12,500 US dollars, whereas seventh and eighth place secure 7,000 US dollars apiece. And even if you don’t make it to the top, there’s still some cash prize for the 9th to 12th place teams. They get 5,000 US dollars each and the teams in 13-16th place get 4,000 US dollars each.
Betting Markets (What Can You Bet On)
As the games progress, betting markets keep up with every moment, creating new paths for people to get involved.
- Match Winner is pretty straightforward, you just pick which team wins. Many prefer it for its clear approach, but of course you still have to take into account things like team strength, recent form and past results and obviously, the unexpected can still happen at any time.
- Map Winner switches the focus to each map within a match. With formats like best-of-three or best-of-five, every map holds value. Teams can play really differently across maps, which adds another layer of depth to this option.
- Correct Score is all about predicting the exact outcome, like 2-0 or 2-1. If you get it spot on you can get a bigger return, but if you’re even a little bit off you’ll lose out.
- First Map Winner is a shorter, faster way to go, just focusing on the first map. It suits those who like getting results quickly, particularly since teams may begin with strength or struggle based on preparation.
- Total Maps Played is all about guessing how many maps there’ll be in a match. Most people go for over or under a set number, and tight contests often stretch to the maximum.
- Pistol Round Winner is a more focused market that’s just about who wins the first pistol round of a match. The first round can set the tone for the whole map, but in a lot of cases it’s still pretty hard to predict.
- Total Rounds is about guessing how many rounds there’ll be in a given map. The closer the match is the more rounds there are likely to be, while one-sided matches usually get wrapped up pretty quickly.
- Handicap Betting applies a virtual edge or deficit to balance uneven contests. The more you know about who’s good and who’s not, the better you’ll be at this one.
- Player Performance is all about individual stats like kills or MVPs, it’s about whether a given player can go above or below a certain line. To get it right you’ll need to think about how consistent they’re likely to be.
- Outright Winner covers the whole tournament you’re picking who you think is going to be the final winner. The potential returns are bigger, but the risk is higher as well because the whole thing can be unpredictable from start to finish.
Teams and Players
Some highly-regarded teams are gearing up to compete in the tournament with well-settled lineups that rely on their star players and team captains to put in consistent performances and seriously contend at the top level.
- NRG moves forward under captain Nicholas Cannella as the core of their team, joined by Joshua Ohm, Alexander Bro, and Aran Groesbeek. They seem to be built around getting everyone working in perfect sync and Cannella making key calls in those high-pressure moments.
- Legacy plays under the guidance of captain Andrei Piovezan, with Bruno Rebelatto, Eduardo Wolkmer, and Guilherme Pacheco forming the rest of the lineup. All look to Andrei for guidance and to help them execute a clear, structured plan of attack.
- Team Vitality lines up with Dan Madesclaire as captain, alongside Mathieu Herbaut, Shahar Shushan, and William Merriman, who make sure that planning and execution are intertwined. Essentially it’s all about finding that delicate balance between thinking the game out and executing the plan on the ground.
- Natus Vincere is basically built around teamwork and discipline spearheaded by captain Aleksi Virolainen. They are also showing a lot of faith in Valerii Vakhovskyi, Mihai Ivan and Ihor Zhdanov. The squad centres its play on teamwork and discipline.
- FaZe Clan will be counting on Helvijs Saukants, David Čerňanský, Jakub Pietruszewski, and Russel Van Dulken to all step up. Their experience and adaptability help them respond to changing situations.

Favourite Teams and Historical Results
Some top teams step up as leading contenders built on past performances, shaped by past results, where title wins and prize earnings highlight their consistency, experience and all-round ability at the very highest level.
- NRG really came good in 2025 by sweeping up the ESL Challenger League Season 49: North America, topping the table and bankrolling 25K US dollars. That result was a pretty clear indicator that they were on the up and up in regional competition.
- Legacy added a major achievement in 2025 at CS Asia Championships 2025, finishing first and collecting a cool $150,000 in the process. That sort of performance shows you they can hold their own on the world stage.
- Team Vitality nearly made it a year to remember with their ESL Grand Slam VI win in 2026. They took the top spot and landed 1 million US dollars in prize money. No surprise that just made it harder for the rest of the field to keep up.
- Natus Vincere actually had a pretty big win in 2024, managing to take the top prize at the Esports World Cup 2024 and receiving $400k in the process. That just adds to the evidence that this is one of the top teams out there.
- Meanwhile, FaZe Clan also put in a solid shift in 2023 at CS Asia Championships 2023, managing to take that top spot and bank 250K US dollars, which reflected its ability to perform in major events.
