Genoa 0-2 Como: Fabregas´ side get Champions League push back on track

Como got back to winning ways in Serie A and leapfrogged Roma back into fifth place after a comfortable 2-0 win over Genoa.

Tasos Douvikas and Assane Diao were on the scoresheet in either half as Cesc Fabregas’ side put the pressure back on Juventus, who face AC Milan later on Sunday.

Como made a bright start and were rewarded just 10 minutes in as Douvikas peeled off the back of his defender to meet Lucas da Cunha’s stunning cross, and nod back across goal.

Nico Paz then dragged wide after dancing through Genoa’s defence, and his glancing header bounced off the right post in the 34th minute as Como continued to push for a second.

Junior Messias saw a close-range shot smothered by Jean Butez as Genoa sought a response, but Como soon doubled their advantage.

Maxence Caqueret did well to help a dinked cross on in the 68th minute, and Diao was on hand at the far post to nod in.

Messias blazed a late chance over the bar as Genoa’s attempts at a comeback felt short, and Como held on for all three points and a clean sheet.

Data Debrief: Como regain their winning touch

After back-to-back losses to Inter and Sassuolo in Serie A, as well as a heartbreaking Coppa Italia exit at the hands of the latter, this was a welcome result for Como.

They are now unbeaten in their last four matches against Genoa in the top flight (W2 D2), as they put in a clinical display, scoring with both of their shots on target.

Paz was once again a bright spark, despite him failing to score for a third consecutive game, as he had two shots (a team high).

It was Martin Baturina who acted as their playmaker, though, creating three chances, and playing a joint team-high 13 passes in the final third, while also winning seven of his 13 duels.
